Our Aims

PitterPatterPonies breeds, produces and sells quality miniature, small horses and Shetlands.

We do not breed indiscriminately; a lot of consideration goes into our breeding programme. With a selection of stallions from refined, hunter type and draught gives us the ability to use the different qualities of each. We have no particular preferences to type, only to breed correct, top quality, sociable stock for a variety of uses. We see what we like and use it.

Showing is now an integral part of our stud. 2004 being our first year, we qualified for and attended three major championships and were delighted at our results. It is extremely hard work fitting show dates into our busy schedule but have enjoyed the opportunity to rub shoulders with the Elite of the societies involved in not only miniatures but Mountain and Moorland and County Standard equine events. We have such a selection of stock we do not continually take the same horse out, new and upcoming stars need some of the limelight too! It takes several weeks of work to get them in show condition and being able to get over 20 horses out in 2004 has been an achievement in itself.

Training is also important; we enjoy attending society seminars and workshops. Although combined we have nearly 50 years experience with equines we consider ourselves open-minded and willing to try new techniques and ideas that improve the standard and well being of our horses.

We review our stock and policies continually to keep up-to-date. However, if we don't agree with current trends our heart rules our head when it comes to selling stock. As we spend so much time with them it makes parting with them difficult. We know their quirky ways and enjoy a special bond as they are all treated as individuals so anyone interested in purchasing them is told their likes, dislikes, qualities (good or bad) because we have a close working environment and their well being is paramount whether it be with us or a prospective purchaser.

On many occasions we have taken in rescued, unwanted, "naughty" and unhandled stock which has earned us the reputation as the "mad Shetland women" (and a few hospital visits) but our policy to give everything a chance has never been reproached because not every mini is drop dead gorgeous, our view is that someone somewhere will love them, find them the right job and within the correct environment thrive and bloom. We have yet to come across a horse that given the right handling and management is still unable to find its Niche. Owners however, well that's a different story! So, it is our policy to not only answer all the questions but to ask the prospective purchaser what their intentions are and pass judgement on theirs and the horse's suitability.
